READ is a place for story-telling, only true stories, of course, taken from first-hand experience. While certainly not always web-centric, they may give you a feel for 'A Day in the Life of a Web Designer', or they may just bore you silly. ;)
Of Risk and Reward

If you don't mind, I'd like to tell you of the lowest point of my life, and how having someone who believes in you, and being open to new (and risky) opportunities made all the difference for me. (for some reason, I feel like sharing)...
Fist-fight on the F Train
The Really-Fat-Sweaty-Man had been sitting with his back to me, his legs stretched out into the aisle and leaning on me for 8 stops. Riding the subway home is often uncomfortable, but sometimes people try to use you like a pillow. Squashed into the side of the car, I breathe a sigh of relief, knowing my stop is just two stops away when the guys turns around to speak to me...
Macromedia Focus Group
It was my usual good luck that got me into the Macromedia focus group. I get weird calls almost every day at GT Interactive. I'm convinced the receptionist transfers calls to me when she doesn't know where to send them. Or maybe my number is in some directory somewhere...
Suimasen
Suimasen, gakushuujuku wa doko desu ka?" [Excuse me, where is the English language school?] The receptionist fires off her reply, in Japanese, declining to look up to see who asked the question...
